ReviOUYA Review #18 – GraveStompers: Zombie vs. Zombie

GraveStompers is an action game made by Mad Menace Entertainment.  Zombies are running rampant and destroying everything in sight.  It is up to you, Max, and your zombie friends to stop the craziness in its tracks.  There are many levels, each with its own series of waves, and large amounts of fun.

Graphics: 9/10

For a cartoon-style game, the graphics have quite a large amount of detail.  The characters have strong detail to them as do the enemies and the scenes.  Blood gushes all over the place, and it is noticeable when you do a charge, slice, or shot.  The frame rate runs at a constant rate as well, barely any slowdown or hiccups, which is great for a game like this.  With the amount of what is going on at once, it is a surprise things do not slow down at all.

Sound: 7/10

The music is alright, can be quiet at times and barely noticeable.  The sound track for the most part is solid.  The sound effects are fantastic however.  While they overpower the BGM due to the quietness of it, they aren’t too loud or garrish.  When hacking up zombies it does sound like you are chopping up flesh when you use the chainsaw (Max’s weapon) for example.  The effects are crisp and not too strong, and definitely enhances the game.

Gameplay: 9/10

The game may seem at first like a basic wave action game, but it has a lot of customization involved in it.  You get to choose one of many zombies to play as, each with their own unique melee weapon, as well as DLC zombies (an extra charge, licensing) like Ghost Face from Scream 4.  There are also a slew of Ranged and melee weapons you can acquire as well, making zombie customization fun as each zombie can have their own ranged weapon, melee weapon, and then their special weapon on top of it all.  The stages are set in waves, each stage having 20 waves.  Doing 20 waves can get dull after a while, which is why after a certain amount you are allowed to access another stage.  If you are too impatient, you are also given the option to buy the stages outright.  You are also given the option to buy more in-game currency  if you wish to have the best stuff.  Buying is not required though as you can level throughout the game and acquire it through progress.

Overall:

GraveStompers is an Action game where it is you, a zombie, pitted against waves and waves of other zombies.  With its smooth graphics and crisp sounds, it is a nice fluid game to play.  Topped with some fun Action-packed gameplay, and the amount of customization you are able to do with each zombie, is is certainly recommended to be a part of everyone’s game collection.  Also, best played during the Halloween Season.
